DESCRIPTION:This training counts toward the MA PGS Certificate Fundamental Coursework \nParticipant stipends are available for those who attend full training. \nThis training is for providers and health allied professionals serving veterans and will focus on identifying and addressing problem gambling with veteran clients. The learning objectives of this training are as follows: \n\nDistinguish between social and problem gambling\nIdentify consequences of problem gambling\nIdentify veteran populations at risk for problem gambling\nDefine addiction and its signs\nDistinguish between gambling and substance use disorder\nPractice addressing addiction\nName support resources\n\nCEUs for the following program are available through this course: \nLicensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors: \n\nMA Technical Assistance Center for Problem Gambling Treatment is authorized by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to sponsor\, conduct or approve continuing education programs for alcohol and drug counselors/assistants (LADCs).\n\nTRAINING CANCELLATION POLICY: Each Problem Gambling and Veterans training requires a minimum of 10 participants. Trainings with fewer than 10 participants will be canceled\, given the challenges that arise with facilitating an interactive 3-hour training with less than 10 active participants. Registrants will be notified of any training cancellations by email and will be referred to additional resources and upcoming trainings. In the event of a training cancellation\, we regrettably cannot provide any stipends toward this training.

SUMMARY:Project Build Up Learning Academy: Impacts of Trauma on Problem Gambling Development and Recovery
DESCRIPTION:This training counts toward the MA PGS Certificate Clinical Core Competency Coursework \nNovember 30th\, December 7th and 14th 1-3:30 PM \nThis program is a 3-session (2.5 hours/session) offered through MTAC’s sister program Project Build Up that will focus on the impacts of trauma on gambling disorder. Attendance at every session is required. \nThe Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Program Project Build Up is hosting a Learning Academy that will discuss how trauma impacts the development of problem gambling and co-occurring disorders. Participants will also learn more about the principles of trauma-informed care and applying these to problem gambling treatment and recovery. This is an opportunity for organizations that already provide services or are interested in providing services for gambling disorder to learn to focus equity on their work. \nParticipation is limited to twenty attendees. Attendance is limited to two participants from each applying organization. Participants that complete all 3 sessions of the Learning Academy will be awarded a stipend. This course offers 7 hours of CEU credits. \nWe will update this page with the application link when we begin accepting applications in late October!

Participants will hear from experts in the field including researchers\, clinicians\, and people with lived experience. Best practices for screening\, assessment\, and treatment will also be discussed. This is a fantastic opportunity for clinicians looking to learn about how they can treat problem gambling and organizations without treatment services to build capacity to make referrals for treatment/educate their community and for clinicians looking to learn about how they can treat problem gambling. \nParticipation is limited to twenty attendees.
